What It’s Really Like to Have a Senior Photo Session in Houston

If you’re looking for a Houston senior photographer and feeling a little nervous about what to expect, I totally get it. Being in front of a camera can feel awkward, especially if you’ve never done a professional photo session before. But here’s the thing: my sessions are nothing like what you’re probably imagining.

I’m Lisa, a Houston photographer who specializes in senior and grad photos, and I want to walk you through exactly what happens during a session with me. Spoiler alert: it’s way more fun than you think.

Let’s get this out of the way first: my sessions are not the kind where you stand in one spot, smile at the camera, and hope for the best. That’s not my vibe at all.

My sessions are easygoing, relaxed, and honestly? They feel more like we’re just hanging out. We’re cracking jokes, talking about life, and getting to know each other. I want to know your dog’s name, what show you’re binge-watching, what your favorite restaurant is. Because when you’re comfortable and having fun, that’s when the best photos happen.

Here’s the breakdown of what a typical senior session with me looks like:

Once you book, we’ll chat about your vision. Are you a golden hour person? Do you have your outfits picked out yet? I’ll share my outfit inspiration Pinterest board with you if you need help. We’ll brainstorm locations, talk about the vibe you’re going for, and make sure we’re on the same page.

On the day of your session, we’ll meet at our chosen location and just start. No pressure, no awkwardness. I’ll guide you through everything, but it’s not going to feel like I’m posing you into perfection. We’re moving around, laughing, and I’m capturing you being you.

Most of my senior sessions are either 30 minutes (Essential package), 1 hour (Classic package), or two separate 1-hour sessions in fall and spring (Signature package, which is my most popular option). We’ll work through your outfits, switch up locations if you’ve booked multiple, and make sure we get a variety of shots that feel authentic to who you are.

My whole goal is to make sure you feel comfortable and confident. I’m not just taking photos. I’m hyping you up the entire time. And honestly? Most of my clients tell me after the session that it was way more fun than they expected. That’s exactly what I’m going for.

One thing you should know about me: I edit true to color with a pop. I used to be all about light and airy editing, but I’ve evolved. Now, I’m all about keeping your photos vibrant and real while still making them feel polished and beautiful.

I stick to my editing style, so you don’t have to worry about requesting a specific aesthetic. What you see in my portfolio is what you’ll get in your gallery, and that consistency is something my clients really appreciate.

Here’s something I’m really proud of: 70% of my work comes from referrals. That means most of my clients are people who were referred by someone who had a great experience with me. And that’s not by accident.

I genuinely care about making sure you have a good time. I’m not just here to take your photos and move on to the next person. I get attached to my clients. I’m the one liking your posts months later, hyping you up in your DMs, and cheering you on through all of it. That’s just how I work.

If you’re curious about pricing and what’s included, here’s a quick breakdown of my senior photo packages:

The Signature package is perfect if you want variety and want to capture different seasons and vibes. A lot of my senior clients love having a fall session and a spring session because it gives them more options for announcements, social media, and yearbook photos.

Houston is an amazing city for senior photos. We’ve got so much variety (urban spots, green spaces), and we’re close enough to Galveston that beach sessions are totally doable. (More on that in another post!)

The best part about shooting in Houston? The light. Golden hour here is absolutely beautiful, and it makes for stunning, warm photos that feel timeless.

If you’re a senior or grad in the Houston area and you’re looking for a photographer who’s going to make this experience fun, easy, and totally stress-free, I’d love to work with you.

I’m not just here to take your photos. I’m here to hype you up, make you feel confident, and give you images you’ll actually love looking at. And after we’re done? I’m your biggest cheerleader for life.

Let’s do this. Get in touch and let’s start planning your session!
